Couse Objectives

This 40-hour course is designed for any law enforcement officer or school administrator working in an educational environment Attendees will gain a solid working knowledge of the School Resource Officer concept and how to establish a lasting partnership with their schools. 8 hours of this course is designed to train officers to perform solo officer response rapid deployment/immediate action tactics.

 Course Content

Three main areas will be addressed: The protections of the Illinois Juvenile Court Act, Serving within a school environment and Threat response.

Juvenile Law – To provide officers with an overview of the Juvenile Court Act and other legal protections enacted to prevent harm to minors within the criminal justice system.

Officer and Youth Interactions – To provide officers with an overview of their role within a school setting, the types of behaviors they will likely encounter, and tactics for identifying and responding to criminal activity, emergencies and threats.

School Threat Response – The focus of this program will be to provide officers with the knowledge and specialized tactical skills to perform solo officer rapid deployment/immediate action.

Written exam, and/or Role play exercises, and Active Threat Response Exercise

Mobile In-Service Training Team # 7 Illinois Enforcement Training and Standards Board

MTU #7 request for certification of this course has been approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board

Meets the following mandatory training criteria: Civil Rights 1.5 hours, Const. Use of LE Authority 1 hour, Crisis Intervention 4 hours, Cultural Competency 2.5 hours, Human Rights .50 hours, Legal Updates 3 hours, Officer wellness/mental health 1 hour, Procedural Justice 7.5 hours, Psychology of Domestic Violence .50 hours, Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect .50 hours, De-Escalation Techniques 3 hours including 2.5 hours of Scenario Based Laws concerning stops, searches and use of force 1 hour, Officer Safety Techniques including cover, concealment and time 3 hours including 2.5 hour of Scenario based, Active Threat Response 7 hours including 6 hours of Scenario Based, Juvenile Law 6 hours, and Officer and Youth Interaction 8 hours.
