Course Objective
This presentation will deal with the two major Law Enforcement Control Acts recently enacted by the Illinois Legislature. The Law Enforcement Community Relations Improvement Act [Public Act: 99-0352 (SB-1304) Effective Date: 01/1/2016 in part.] and the SAFE-T Act [Public Act: 101-0652 (HB 3653) Numerous Effective Dates (as Amended by Public Acts 102-28 & 102-694)] The presentation will analyze these two Police Control statutes and identify the changes resulting from these provisions.
Course Content
Topics of analysis will include the modification of the Use of Force Laws; the Law Enforcement Certification Provisions; the Court Reform Provisions (including the Abolition of Cash Bail) and the practical impacts of these changes on Illinois Law Enforcement. The goal of this presentation is to offer guidance to Illinois Law Enforcement agencies with respect to these changes and provide information and publications that will assist the agencies in performing their duties following the enactment of these provisions.
