Course Objective
On January 10, 2023, Public Act 102-1116 created the Protect Illinois Communities Act.. That Act modified Illinois law concerning the purchase, delivery, possession and use of assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices.
Further, the Act amended the Illinois State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois, the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, the Firearms Restraining Order Act, and the Criminal Code of 2012 to accomplish this purpose.
The Act created three new criminal offenses that outlawed the purchase, delivery, possession of assault weapons and kits that increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm with numerous exceptions and exclusions and two new subsections of the Criminal Code specifically defining and outlawing these weapons and devices. Since Illinois law requires that all Illinois law enforcement officers receive annual training concerning the Illinois Firearms Restraining Order Act and since this new Act modifies that Act, this training was created to accomplish that purpose.
Additionally, it is imperative that all Law Enforcement Officers have an accurate understand of current Illinois Firearms Law as it has been recently modified. This presentation was created to meet that need.
