Course Objective
This five-day, 40-hour training program is practical, informational and hands-on. The purpose of the
course is to provide law enforcement with the knowledge and skills required to train probationary law enforcement officers in a one-to-one setting. Diverse instructional methods will be employed to provide a student-centered learning environment. Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will be certified as Field Training Officers.
Course Content
This state-certified program prepares selected officers to assume the critical role of Field Training Officer within their departments.

The Police Image
Role and Responsibility
Principles of learning and communication
Methods of instructions
Stress management
Overriding the Probationary Officers decision
Sexual harassment/hostile working environment
The evaluation process
Job Status review and recommendation
About the Instructor:
Thom Dworak is a retired Sergeant (31 years) from a suburban Chicago police department where he was the Field Training and Evaluation Program Coordinator and the Lead Defensive Tactics/Use of Force Instructor. Thom’s knowledge of experiential learning, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, creative problem solving and decision making has shaped our programs for the challenging and ever-changing environment the Criminal Justice professional find themselves in daily.
