Couse Objectives
This 40-hour course is designed for any law enforcement officer or school administrator working in an educational environment. Attendees will gain a solid working knowledge of the School Resource Officer concept and how to establish a lasting partnership with their schools. The last day with consist of eight hours designed to train officers to perform solo officer response rapid deployment/immediate action tactics.
Course Content
Three main areas will be addressed: The protections of the Illinois Juvenile Court Act, Serving within a school environment and threat response.
Juvenile Law – To provide officers with an overview of the Juvenile Court Act and other legal protections enacted to prevent harm to minors within the criminal justice system.
Officer and Youth Interactions – To provide officers with an overview of their role within a school setting, the types of behaviors they will likely encounter, and tactics for identifying and responding to criminal activity, emergencies and threats.
School Threat Response – The focus of this program will be to provide officers with the knowledge and specialized tactical skills to perform solo officer rapid deployment/immediate action.
Written exam, and/or Role play exercises, and Active Threat Response Exercise
