Course Description:
Due to the rise and popularity of MMA combat sport and Brazilian Jiujitsu, this course will teach the student/officer skills to safely restrain an aggressive offender by teaching the defensive ground techniques, and the application of subject restraint/hand cuffing.
Course Objective:
- To refamiliarize students with operation, familiarization, proper application of handcuffs in various positions.
- Develop an understanding of standing defensive tactics and staying on your feet.
- Develop an understanding of how to defend yourself if brought to the ground.
- Cover how two officers can safely bring a combative subject.
- How to disengage and get back on your feet.
- De-escalation
What to bring:
- Duty belt or handcuff case (no firearm or ammunition)
- Two (2) pairs of handcuffs
- Handcuff key
- Kevlar Vest

MTU 7 request for certification of this course has been approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
Meets the following mandatory training criteria: Legal Updates .50 hours, Procedural Justice .50 hours, De-Escalation Techniques 6 hours with 2 hours scenario based and Officer Safety Techniques 1 hour with 1 hour scenario based.
